Description

Most of us know anxiety and at least some of its torments. But a glimpse of its vital function is gained when what an individual should rightly sense as a threat instead is felt to present no danger.

Freud understood that anxiety and its cognates, fear and dread, are central not only to mental disorders or as responses to traumas, but to the whole functioning of the mind as well as to our survival: phantasies of archaic situations lead to the existence of sources of anxiety that are largely internal and autonomous.

This year’s UCL Psychoanalysis Conference will consider how today the plural forms taken by anxiety are best understood and responded to clinically.

Please note that space is limited at the clinical seminars on Friday 1st December 2017, so early booking is advisable to avoid disappointment.
