This short course offered by the world leading UCL Institute of Neurology in Queen Square gives an introduction to the epidemiological principles governing stroke research.

Learning outcomes

-       Evaluate a large scale stroke study

-       Describe global trends in stroke

-       Describe the impact on stroke risk of gender, ethnicity

-       Understand how big linkage data can be used in stroke epidemiology

-       Evaluate the currently used stroke outcome measures

Examples of lecture topics :

-       Primary prevention of stroke

-       Global trends and impact of ethnicity

-       Anti hypertensive therapy

-       Mendelian randomisation as an epidemiological tool in stroke


-       2 hours: Stroke Epidemiology

There are 2 options: as a Short course for CPD attending lectures, after which we will issue a Certificate of attendance; or as a full Module that includes attending lectures, completion of coursework and final examination. Those taking the module can use their exam results towards a postgraduate qualification in Stroke Medicine at UCL if they decide to enrol on the MSc/PGDip/PGCert Stroke Medicine course at a later date (within 5 years).
