Early diagnosis of liver disease can have a profound impact on patients’ outcome, and the ability to monitor disease progression more accurately can lead to better management as well as improve our understanding of the natural history and physiopathology of liver disease. Non-invasive tools, especially those based on the use of ultrasound have gained considerable importance worldwide in recent years. However, the opportunities for gastroenterologists and hepatologists in the UK to train in this rapidly developing field are very limited. This intensive 2-day clinical ultrasound course will give the attendees the unique opportunity to benefit from hands-on training to complement the essential theory sessions. Experts in clinical ultrasound will mentor the participants on how to recognize normal anatomy and pathological features ranging from focal and diffuse liver disease to biliary and vascular pathology. A special relevance will be given to the latest advances in ultrasound diagnostic technologies such as shear wave elastography and contrast enhanced ultrasound. By the end of the course the participants will have gained considerable insight on the use of ultrasound allowing them to develop a more integrated clinical approach to hepatology.
