Description

Who is this for?

At least 1 in 100 school children now have a diagnosis of ASD and many teachers will now have at least one child with Autism in their class. This session is for class teachers, Senior Leaders and SENCOs seeking the most up-to-date information on how to support pupils with ASD in mainstream schools.

What is covered?

This session will include an interactive opportunity to audit your current school practice against an evidence-based audit from the Autism Education Trust. We will explore cognitive theories underpinning many pupils' experience of autism, plus examples of difficulties in sensory processing, to underpin the strategies and guidelines outlined in the Audit framework.

Participant outcomes:

Participants will leave with an idea of 'next steps' for their school or classroom in respect of providing excellent provision for pupils with Autism. The Audit Framework will structure continued progress in this area for schools. Participants will also have a deeper understanding of the day to day experience of school for many pupils with Autism.

This short course is run by Dr. Amelia Roberts, Deputy Director of the Centre for Inclusive Education and takes place from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Wednesday 29th November 2017.

Course fee: £49
