Description

In these two sessions, we will look at behaviour that challenges, potential causes and practical ways that you can support the young people in these situations. This course is aimed at classroom practitioners who would to increase their understanding in this area.

 

Aims:

  • To establish the causes of some of the behaviours
  • To understand the physiological impact of extreme behaviour on the body
  • Acknowledging staff wellbeing in supporting behaviours
  • Understanding strategies to support some behaviours
  • Developing an understanding of behaviour policy in your setting

 

 

Session 1:

What are the underlying causes of the behaviours that we see?

How does this effect the children?

How as adults do we feel when coming across these types of behaviours?

Looking at communication as behaviour

Looking at sensory needs as behaviours

 

Gap Task:

When back in your setting, seek out your behaviour policy. Read this thoroughly and establish its key principles. Answer a set of questions around this.

 

Session 2:

Paired reflection on the behaviour policy task- do they encourage a positive approach? As a staff member do you feel supported by this? How quickly are behaviours escalated?
