Description

This Joint Professional Development group is lead by teacher and occupational therapist Kate Bradley. In 5 sessions over the course of the year, we will explore the sensory systems and strategies to support a universal classroom approach to meeting sensory needs. We will collaborate as a group of professionals from different settings to set a research aim and explore this over the course of the year’ This project is suitable for professionals from all education settings.

 

Aims:

  • To be able to to describe sensory needs
  • To learn about the basic neurology of three sensory systems (tactile, vestibular and proprioception)
  • To understand hypo/hyper responses
  • To identify an over/under and seeking sensory child
  • To learn strategies that can support each of these sensory systems.
  • Learn the basics of the Alert Programme
  • To develop a universal sensory approach that will work in individual classrooms
  • To develop a small research project gaining pupil voice.
