Introduction to what is meant by sensory strategies and overview of the alert programme
Complete an adult sensory measure to identify that we all have sensory needs and preferences
Gap Task 1: initial questionnaire of the participants (children or staff)
Gaining results from the initial questionnaire to gauge starting point.
Session focus will be on the three of the sensory systems and the basic neurology so that we can understand why.
Gap Task 2: Neurology task as a recap.
Sensory strategies focus. What can be used in classrooms, shopping lists for key items. Using sensory circuits and individual sensory plans. The role of the occupational therapist.
Gap task 3:
Developing sensory strategies in the classroom.
Participants to use their growing knowledge of sensory systems to engage support staff in the class in understanding why and to support the children to begin meeting their own sensory needs.
Reflection log to be kept and bought to next session.
Challenges of implementing a new strategy and problem solving.
