Strategies that work to meet speech and language needs in the classroom.

This is a one-day course for teachers, teaching assistants and SENCOs to learn about strategies to support speech and language needs in the classroom, how to apply these effectively, and the relevance of pupil perspectives.

 

Overview

This one-day course is for teachers and teaching staff who want to

·         Learn to recognise the nature of speech and language difficulties in their pupils

·         Consider strategies to support learners with speech and language needs in class

·         Understand and work with pupils’ perspectives

 

Course content

 

The following areas will be examined during this course:

 

·         High quality teaching to support speech and language needs – evidence based classroom strategies to implement at a universal level

·         Identification – recognising and understanding the nature of speech and language difficulties in the context of the classroom and the teaching they receive

·         Working with pupil perspectives – how to understand the experience of children with speech and language difficulties, and involve them in the support offered

·         Partnership with other professionals – how and when to involve other professionals in order to support individuals 

 

This short course is run by Dr. Rosalind Merrick, Associate Tutor for the UCL Centre for Inclusive Education, and takes place from 9:30am to 4:30pm on Wednesday 29th March 2017.
