Detailed Description

This volume is the result of an international symposium held at the School of Slavonic and Est European Studies, University of London, on 26 and 27 September 1983. While the material presented at the symposium dealt with Sikorski’s career from his student days to his death, there was naturally a keen interest in his role as leader of the Polish nation during his enforced exile in wartime London. From 1939 until 1943 he directed the Polish war effort both in exile and at home. During his period of premiership, in what were dark days of occupation for Poland, Sikorski personified hopes and aspirations of his countrymen for victory and eventual liberation.
