Course Description

The robotic platform has demonstrated its ability in improving ergonomics for the surgeon as well as reducing morbidity for patients, and is quickly becoming the preferred minimally invasive therapeutic modality in most surgical fields. This course will provide interactive lectures, video and hand on lab based teaching for indviduals, to allow them to confidently incorporate this technology into their recontructive urological practice. The course will include training on day-to-day safe and optimal use of the robotic system, and advanced robotic reconstructive skills – ureteric re-implantation, orthotopic neobladder, ileal conduit, clam cystoplasty. Particiants should have done the Introduction to basic robotic surgical skills course or be using the robotic system in clinical practice. At the end of the course, participants will be able to perform robotic reconstructive procedures in cadaveric porcine models, understand the limitations of the technology, and develop a culture of maintaining quality assurance. The course will be taught using pre-course video based learning, case observation in theatre and hands on mentored wet lab training on prcone cadaveric models. The technical skills learnt will be evaluated using validated assessment tools. The course willl be accredited by the Royal College of surgeons.
