DescriptionThe Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD) Professional Learning Network (PLN) is for all specialist teachers in literacy and dyslexia. We particularly welcome our alumni students from the SpLd (dyslexia) masters programme. The PLN are a way for participants to keep up to date with the latest research in literacy difficulties, dyslexia and related subjects. The networks are self-steering and led by member practitioners in order to ensure the direction reflects the needs and interests of the members. A UCL Centre for Inclusive Education staff member will also join the group to support facilitation and link with IOE researchers that members may wish to invite to speak with the group. Session 1 – Tuesday 7th December 2021 4.30pm-5.45pm: Exploring the links between reading fluency and reading comprehension: implications for teaching dyslexic learners. Session 2 – Tuesday 8th March 2022 4.30pm-5.45pm: Phonics – We will consider research on phonics and discuss in relation to the 2021 DFE Reading framework: teaching the foundations of literacy (2021) DFE Session 3 – Tuesday 28th June 2022 4.30pm-5.45pm: Diagnosing…. what is appropriate? “With SASC’s new report guidelines reinforcing the need for us all to be mindful of making diagnostic decisions within our own fields of expertise, this session will explore how we can reasonably provide guidance and support to individuals, parents and supporting institutions on co-occurring conditions.”
