C02 Executive Education: Competition Law Public Policy & Technology: A Complexity PerspectiveDescriptionThis 16-hour course will introduce the intricacies of competition law enforcement in a complex economy. It will introduce the major public policy issues that competition authorities around the world have grappled with, and these will be examined through several case studies. This course does not detail recent developments in the law; rather the aim is to ensure a more pluralist perspective on competition law enforcement, by exposing participants’ to different perspectives and therefore enabling them to develop a critical understanding of the broader socio-economic context of competition law enforcement. C02 Executive Education: Reinsurance LawDescriptionThe Executive Education programme offers an in-depth exploration of the principles and practices that underpin reinsurance transactions in today's marketplace. As risk transfers into the global reinsurance markets, capital markets are essential to the insurability of many risks. This programme focuses on both traditional and cutting-edge reinsurance and risk transfer structures designed to address modern challenges such as climate risks, cyber risks, and catastrophic events. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of how reinsurance contracts are termed, formed, structured, and governed, with special attention given to the interaction between underlying insurance contract and the reinsurance contract and how this relationship impacts on the reinsurance terms and claims. The course will examine the structure and regulation of insurance-linked securities which are a means of risk transfer to, and of financing insurance risk in, the capital markets. It will provide a thorough introduction to key principles of corporate law pertaining to the governance of corporations, such as directors’ duties and shareholder rights, as well as best practice standards laid down in corporate governance codes, which have become ubiquitous in corporate governance regulation. The course will furthermore examine topical problems at the centre of current policy debates, including shareholder activism and short termism, the regulation of executive remuneration, corporate social responsibility, environmental, social and corporate governance investing and reporting, and the debate about corporate purpose.
