G21 Qualitative Health Research Network (QHRN) October 2022 Workshops

Description

We are running three workshops in October 2022. Two online and one face to face focussing on developing specialist qualitative research skills in health research. Each workshop is delivered through a combination of live sessions and self-paced content.

  1. Qualitative Process Evaluation: Tuesday 4th October 11 – 1.30pm – Online: Holly Walton & Rochelle Burgess

Focusing on current understandings, ethics and access in healthcare settings, research design, data collection and management methods, analysis, and the written account.

  1. Writing and Publishing Qualitative Research: Tuesday 11th October 10 – 1pm – Online: Dr Julia Bailey & Dr Rachael Frost

How to write up qualitative research (e.g. a research paper), including how to describe qualitative research for an academic/medical audience.  We address what constitutes good writing, and give students practice in conveying their ideas clearly in writing.  We will provide some suggested solutions to barriers and blocks to writing. The workshop runs from 10 – 12.30pm, with the final 30 minutes for individual queries / further discussion.

  1. Applied Conversation Analysis: Wednesday 26th October 1.30pm – 5pm – Face to face: Steven Bloch, Suzanne Beeke & Merle Mahoon.

Conversation analysis (CA) is a qualitative approach to the study of social interaction and ‘talk-in-interaction’. This practical workshop will introduce participants to both the principles and the practices of doing conversation analysis in health-related research.

Qualitative Methods in Implementation Research

G21 Qualitative Methods in Implementation Research (Q-MIR) Symposium 2022

Description

The NIHR ARC North Thames (ARC NT) Academy is delighted to announce Qualitative methods in implementation research (Q-MIR) 2022 – a major event to explore theory-informed qualitative research in implementation research.

We will meet on the web on 2 November and in-person on 10-11 November in Bloomsbury, Central London.

Q-MIR 2022 brings together internationally acknowledged speakers to explore the ways that qualitative methods make possible discovery research around implementation processes. The meeting has two main objectives: (a) to explore the role of qualitative research in building knowledge about evidence translation and implementation science, and (b) to explore how Normalization Process Theory, and other theoretical frameworks, can inform qualitative research on implementation.

Q-MIR 2022 mobilises the best mix of hybrid delivery. On 2 November our plenary speakers will give their talks as a webinar, open to all, and with discussants drawn from ARC NT and ARC NENC. On 10 and 11 November we’ll offer in-person talks and workshops at a venue in Central London. Workshop attendance is limited and we aim to build a collegial and collaborative space for practitioners and researchers interested in thinking qualitatively about implementation research.
