DescriptionAudio description is used to make live performances more accessible to people with sight loss. The course will introduce participants to accessibility in theatres, adopting a rights-based approach to content access; it examines current UK legislation on accessibility in entertainment contexts. It will then show how accessibility is realised in theatres, what it involves, which access services are used, and what other types of access can be provided. Participants will be introduced to various settings and equipment configurations for surtitling for the D/deaf and hard-of-hearing and audio description for people with sight loss. The practical part of the course involves writing and exercises, including giving a short presentation to the group and working under guidance to create scripts for audio description.
