Description

Six-month level 7 postgraduate course offering a global perspective on surgical and perioperative care. It aims to aims to give a broad overview of the challenges to providing timely and accessible surgery in differing socio-economic regions of the world and to introduce the work currently being undertaken to address the recognised inequalities in surgical healthcare.

Materials review in-depth important initiatives including the Lancet Commission on Global Surgery and other works in the field. Case studies are used to explore a mix of generic and specific issues surrounding surgical care delivery and gain an understanding of how low- and middle-income countries are addressing their own medical needs with the support of other nations and NGOs.

Students will be asked to identify a unique global surgery intervention from the published literature and make an assessment of the work, presenting it in scientific poster format.
