Course Description

This course is composed of a series of workshops that introduce a basic understanding of silverpoint drawing and its historical context. Students will prepare paper surfaces for silverpoint drawing using traditional techniques and materials. They will undertake a practical drawing exercise using a stylus, working from direct observation of a still life set up, as well as from secondary sources. Time is built into this workshop for students to creatively explore further types and processes of metal point techniques and surface preparations, with the aim of sparking the imagination into further experimentation with their own ideas.
