Course Description

This course will offer students the opportunity to explore the visual language of painting perceptually from the life model and encourage students to develop their own personal expression. During the course conceptual aspects of life painting ‘as ways of thinking, will be taught with one-to-one tuition on the experience of a sustained visual exchange: perceptual shifts taking place between the artist & subject, colour mixing, tone & temperature, form and the role of structure in terms of proportion and spatial relationships.

The first half of the course is structured weekly with day painting studies from the model beginning with drawing with paint with the focus on proportions, continuing with ideas highlighting tone, temperature and colour, culminating with the final four sessions working from a sustained model pose.
