Description

Session 1: Why 18m? – A Brief History of Fire Safety

Join Professor José Torero, one of the world’s foremost experts on fire safety and Head of the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering, for the first in a two-part lecture series on fire safe design.

This session traces the historical development of fire safety in architecture, through landmark disasters from the Great Fire of London to the Lakanal House fire in 2009. Through this historical lens, Professor Torero will illuminate how catastrophic events have shaped the UK's Building Regulations and fire safety practices. By understanding the origins of our current regulatory framework, participants will be better equipped to interpret guidance and integrate fire safety effectively into their design processes.

Certificates of attendance will be issued to all participants.

Please note that this seminar will run from 18.00 until 19.30.
