Description

Workshop to learn to read and write Maya hieroglyphic texts, including lectures, hands-on activities, and a visit to the Mexico Gallery at the British Museum.

Come join us for a hands-on workshop where you'll learn the fascinating art of deciphering Maya hieroglyphs! This event is perfect for history buffs, language enthusiasts, and anyone curious about ancient civilizations.

Led by Felix Kupprat (UNAM, Mexico), you'll dive into the world of Maya writing with an introductory workshop on 8 and 9 April 2026 (10:30am - 4:30pm) at the UCL Institute of Archaeology, including a visit to the Mexican Gallery at the British Museum on the second day (part 1 of OMG).

For part 2 of OMG, you can further your understanding with a small group workshop on 10 April 2025 (10am-4pm) by looking at Mesoamerican objects with inscriptions at the British Museum store (in East London, near Haggerston Station).

You can sign up for part 1 only, or for both parts 1 and 2, although you will get the best experience if you are able to join us for the whole event!
