Course Description

You will study the essentials of location audio recording, refine critical listening skills, and explore the captivating world of ambient sounds in visual storytelling. You will also gain hands-on expertise in dialogue editing and sound post-production processes, including sound design and mixing for moving images, fiction and documentary. 

 

 After this course, you will be able to understand and apply the basic principles of sound production for moving images and craft sonic narratives that captivate audiences onscreen.

 

 WHO IS IT FOR? 

 

 This course suits anyone who wants to get practical experience and already has some audio production experience.

 

 COURSE CONTENT 

 

The course content consists of:

 

  • Introduce participants to location sound recording for narrative films and documentaries: dialogue, room tone, soundscape/ambience.
  • Hands-on experience recording in real-world settings to apply learned techniques to capture different audio scenarios.
  • Sound design and audio principles in various media forms (fiction films, documentaries, and games).
  • Basic audio editing: layering sounds, dialogue editing, plugins (reverb, equalizer, compressor etc) using Audition.
  • Explore creating immersive environments through soundscapes and sonic techniques using Audition and Sound Particles. 
  • Develop a portfolio by applying the knowledge gained in the course into a two-minute film/video scene, incorporating field recording, dialogue editing, sound design, and basic mixing principles.

  • Develop creative and critical skills in location sound recording for narrative films, capturing dialogue, room tone and ambience. 
  • Enhanced critical listening skills.
  • Fundamental understanding of sound design and audio principles across diverse media forms such as fiction films, documentaries, and other audio-visual works.
  • Basics of audio editing using software like Audition, including skills in layering sounds, dialogue editing, and utilization of essential plugins for effects.
