· To become familiarised with the scientific and clinical background underpinning the development of the Developmental Journal and its principles as parent-held materials used in ‘partnership’ model · To understand how to use the Developmental Journal for developmental monitoring, promoting development and vision, goal setting, integrating vision level with development · To consider how to work most effectively with different children and their families including working with variable progress, ‘getting stuck’ and diverse family styles and parental wellbeing
Module 1 Introductions; background to the development of the Developmental Journal; design and principles; working in partnership with parents; introducing the journal (90 minutes) Coffee break 20 minutes (coffee/ tea provided) Module 2 Scientific background, vulnerable areas of development; infancy stage; tracking development; setting a baseline;goal-setting and using activity cards (90 minutes) Lunch break 40 minutes (canteen available for lunch purchase) Module 3 Integrating learning and vision; monitoring and promoting vision; monitoring overall development rates; challenging areas of development and ‘getting stuck’ (90 minutes) Coffee break 20 minutes (coffee/tea provided) Module 4 Developmental Journal and evidence-based practice (OPTIMUM), working in partnership with diverse home scenarios; service delivery issues; strengthening your practice Summary of learning points (90 minutes) End 17.00 pm Handouts and paper materials may be sent to you in advance or available on the day.
