As an experienced technician, in charge or aspiring to run your department's technical service, this course will enable you to develop skills for sharing good practice within the team and to identify and address any changes required to provide an improved effective and efficient technical service in your school /college and possibly beyond.

Course Description

This is a one-day course for school or college science technicians in charge of (or aspiring to manage) a team, or those who are sole technicians.

It will help you develop the skills needed to:

·         Share good practice

·         Work cohesively as a team of technicians and also within the science department

·         Identify and address any changes needed to improve practice.

It will enable you to deliver and enhance the technical service in your school or college and possibly beyond, by training others, ensuring continuing professional development and setting up or contacting local groups.

The course covers the following:

 

·         Managing and organising the technical service, including the requisition system, health and safety and associated practical resources

·         Communication and working with others

·         Training others - induction programmes and appraisals

·         Leadership and management

·         Keeping up to date with developments in the field
